Prognosis: Rare Earth Metals (REMs) and Current Situation on European Continent

It is a secret de Polichinelle that the West, AUKUS and particularly the US is in Ukraine after the natural resources and partly to weaken Russia. Not just any resources, but the rare earth metals (REM) in particular. The chase for REMs also explains the failed revolution in Kazakhstan (2021), Finland’s and Sweden’s joining the NATO, active interest in purchase of Greenland, aggressive rhetoric around Canada becoming the 51st state. It is easy to arrive to this conclusion once the connection is drawn around the following dots: advancement of IR4.0 built on digitization and digitalization, interconnectivity, smart automation, development of AI, heavy reliance of modern electronics (smart-phones, -TVs and computers), development of supercomputers, heavy reliance of modern weaponry on REMs (each F-35 take almost half a ton of those), map of distribution of REM and the roaring news add up to the desired picture.

Since agenda of weakening Russia on the battle field has mostly failed (as of beginning of 2025) and it is obvious that Russia is just taking off in land acquisition (especially in those regions that are rich in REMs), it is reasonable to secure the access to those resources in Ukraine with bilateral agreements, which is widely discussed now in the news. However, there always remains the risk that Russia does not comply with hopes and expectations of the West.

Prognosis: In such case, if Trump would be a good chess player/strategist acting egoistically in the national interests, he would weaken the EU and its ability to resist his politics by deeper involving it with Ukraine. When “the patient” becomes overly involved in secondary activities (e.g. protecting and rebuilding Ukraine), takeover/buy Greenland. This land is far from Russia; it is more rich in those resources critical for the US (50 of 52 critical elements are based there) and has strategically higher importance in the contest for Arctics, the region which is significantly more rich in natural resources than Ukraine. Such an exchange (Ukraine for Greenland) seems quite an interesting development from my point of view.

Let’s see if history goes by this scenario.
